Walter Johnson has updated his gallery with three images from a 1970’s workshop in Chicago:

Commemorating the September 11 dedication ceremony is a whole plate by Jerry Spagnoli which has been added to his gallery page. This adds not only to the body of his work of reportage daguerreotypy but also to his presidential daguerreotypy with two persons of the office visible in the image. Also added to his gallery is a view from Jerry’s Chelsea studio on that Tuesday 10 years ago.

I have added a image gallery of my portable darkroom to the technology galleries. The trailer was designed to keep chemicals out of my vehicle, garage and house while letting me take the process to people and locations. It has a generator for power but also can be hooked up to household main supply, which powers the fan of the fumehood, and runs the buffing tray warmer, lights and appliances. It has two skylights which have amber acrylic for safelighting, one of them removable. Two 10 liter tanks provide the water supply, one for tap water, one for distilled and 20L waste water storage. The construction of the enclosure is with 50mm insulated panels which keep it cool in summer and warm in winter.

Welcome to our first galleried artist from China, Li Junyi, aka newone2010 from the dagforum. Starting his gallery are 9 mercurial 4×5 inch plates of his muse. Li is very appreciative of the supply of plates stock from dagforum members that have pointed his silver plater in the right direction. Li has an upcoming article in the next daguerreian society newsletter telling of his journey of becoming a daguerreotypist.

Just in from Eric Mertens, this little safety reminder concerning an industrial bromine spill in Chelyabinsk, Russia. The Gizmodo article accompanying the video makes the assertion that the cloud you see is the result of only 10 gallons being released. Regardless of the truth of that, let’s all be careful out there.

On exhibit in the Konst and Kamera gallery in Sweden are daguerreotypes by Ake Hultman of his documentation of his surrounding environs over summer. Also on display are his reproductions of vintage equipment

A new large format, in camera original, work from Curtis Wehrfritz has been added to his gallery page, more of his latest work can be seen in exhibit he currently has in San Francisco.

Casey has expanded in his format repertoire to include whole plate, two of these have been added to his gallery.

Mike Robinson has shared some images of his revival of a 19th century French design for half plate fuming boxes. The compact boxes feature a bottom pressure plate similar to a printing out frame back, to keep the iodine dish in contact with the ground glass. Mike explains that since the brass is on the other side of the wood from the iodine it doesn’t suffer from corrosion. The glass tray is flat pieces of glass glued with marine epoxy which is holding up well. The copper runners ensure the ground glass cannot be accidentally withdrawn and the whole design is very compact for the traveling daguerreian.
