By the way,(maybe this is another stupid question of mine),whether a Flat sand grinding machine(like Bosch GSS 140 A) can be used?
newone2010ParticipantHi Everyone?
I am thinking about using Random Orbit Sander now.I remember someone said he use Bosch sander which has a low speed 4500 RPM.I can not find this kind of sander in China, but I found
BOSCH GEX125-1AE.The speed is 7,500-12,000 RPM.Is it too strong for silver polishing?
I also need to find foam discs.I found it’s too difficult to be found here.Which kind of foam disc do you use?Is it is a kind of Special products for Bosch sander?
Thank you so much,
Looking forward for your reply,
Best,
Li
newone2010ParticipantOH,Mike,
2 or 3 sec F5.6.It’s so fast,I have done some experiences, and I only can make a correct exposure at F5.6 at least about 15 seconds.I need more experiences.
Thank you so much

newone2010ParticipantHi Jason,
I alreay have a lens for 8X10 now. It’s Zeiss 250mm F3.5.How do you think about it?I also find two Zeiss 210 F4.5 lens in Beijing. One is about 200 dollar and another is 380 dollar, but they are same and under same conditions.I made a short test and I think 210 F4.5 can cover 8X10 too,a little bit of black Vignetting.More interesting, one of my friends, who makes wet plates. He use a lens made in China, about 50 years old. It’s 240mm,F4.5.It can easily cover 10×12 inchi wet plates. It works very well, and the price is about 20-30 dollar.
Thank you,
Li
newone2010ParticipantSafty is the first important thing. My wife told me again and again.I will rebuild my fume box and other things.
newone2010ParticipantHi Jason,
I can make a large camera by myself.Of cause,if these lenses can be accepeted by normal 8X10 camera. That will be great.
F4.5 is OK.but I need much more powerful flash lights. The flash lights is too expensive.

newone2010ParticipantHi Jason,
Can you show me the links of the lenses (300mm F3.5 Tessar or Xenar, and Petval 16inchi)?I can’t find useful info using my poor English on internet.
Thank you,
Li
newone2010ParticipantHi Dagwood 24,
I have little experience in making D’types too,but I think your problems maybe caused by the light of your darkroom.Which kind of your light?
I made mistake in the light sometimes.I forgot to turn off the PL Lamps when I sensitized few plates. The plates after Br looked like pale with a little blue, and did not change to any other color forms when I try to add more time.
Hope this can help you,
Li
newone2010Participantnewone2010ParticipantOkay,maybe this questions is really foolish.I still want to know, how can I do only hand polishing with Mike’s clad plates?
newone2010ParticipantI was still looking for good velvet in China too.The velvet john suggested is too expensive for me.In China, somethings are much cheaper, but you really need to try many until you get the right one.Do you wash the velvet before you use it for buffing?
newone2010Participantvjpalsa,CONGRATUNATIONS!
Mike sent me 2 of his clad plates too,but I haven’t try them.I have not any suitable electro mechines.I just have a polishing machine for prepare cooper.I do all the polishing and buffing by my hands.I control hand buffing better than before, and I do not want to back to machine polishing at right now. When I can do perfect hand buffing,I will learn to how to do a perfet polishing by machine.

newone2010ParticipantHi Everyone,
I saw the price of Aucl3 which Alan posted one year ago.
“So I’m about to buy more gold chloride and my chemical company is offering two types of gold chloride –
“two different compounds. The second one is gold monochloride (aurous) which is less stable so it is likely you would use the gold trichloride (auric), This is definitely more common.
“
these are product details (with the NZ dollar/peso):
Item: ACR318645000 EA Qty: 2 $132.35 $264.70
Gold (III) chloride 99% 500mg
Item: ACR388330010 EA Qty: 1 $364.75 $364.75
Gold(I) chloride 99+% 1 gram”
I am a little confused. How much others pay for it?
I think the price Alan posted was too expensive.
I bought 3 gram of AuCl4.4H2O(Au ?47.8%)half a year ago,it is just about RMB450 for each gram. The price is changing according Au future goods.
I think the price I get is expensive, but Alan’s price is higher.
Can somebody tell me which kind of Au+Cl you get and how much it is?
newone2010ParticipantHi Matt,
I tried 0.7 copper?0.7 brass?0.8brass? and 1.0 copper.
I got some plates from different dagpists all over the world when I was in trouble with electroplating.I found some use 0.5mm,some 1.27,some 1.5mm.
0.5mm copper is easy to be curved when you polish base cooper before eletroplating. My experiment is 1.0-1.5mm cooper is the best unless you can do the same nice word as Mike Robinson does.Of couse, brass is good to use too.
Hope this can help you.

newone2010ParticipantHi Vipalsa and everyone ,
I want to know which kind of flannel too.I am looking for pure cotten white flannel in Chinese internet, but I can not find anyone who sold this.
I just use rouge for buffing. The”rouge”,in China,we call it” iron oxide red”.
I am looking for lamp black too.I already find one guy who sold it.Sometimes,English words can hard to be translated to the correct Chinese words which we called “the thing”.That is often make me confused.I do not know whether some produces are what I think they are.I will purchase the “lamp black”(in china, maybe it is called ” carbon black“.I never know unless I get it.
Good luck!
Li
newone2010ParticipantThank you ,John and Greg!
Now,I know what I will do.I will show you all if I make one satisfying dag.I already have some plan and will work on it few weeks later.

newone2010ParticipantHi John,
I think I might made an mistake in glass choice.I searched informations on internet and found a Link:http://www.tru-vue.com/Tru-Vue/Products/33/
I read here and I know some of you use “museum glass”,I was sure that was the thing.
I checked the website of this company ” Tru Vue”,and there was just one kind of glass called”museum glass”,also there were other kinds:Conservation Reflection Control,Conservation Clear,UltraVue,Reflection Control.
I thought you must use the “Museum Glass”.I called the seller,he said the glass which he already cut for me was the production from “Nielsen Bainbrige”:http://www.nielsen-bainbridge.com/ but I did not found any info on their website about glass. The glass I bought is really expensive. When I made an mistake in it,where I could go to find the right thing? In China, looking for good framing materials is so difficult.

newone2010ParticipantHi Greg,
What’s the difference of this two kinds:FILMOPLAST P90 & P90 PLUS NESCHEN BOOK REPAIR TAPE?Which you use?I think both of them are okay.Just for making sure.
I will order some after I am sure which kind is what I need.
best,
Li
newone2010ParticipantThank you ,Greg and John.
I will looking for the tape you mentioned, and John, the attachments show the difference:UV-glass and normal glass. The uv glass has two layers very very thin which can not been seen. These two layers make the glass clear, low in reflectivity, and UV-proof.I think it would be very similar as the museum glass which you use.The seller didn’t know what was museum glass, but he said his glass maybe called “museum-grade UV glass”in English. How much museum glass which you use costs? If we compare the costs,we can know the results.

Li

newone2010ParticipantIn the gilding process,I think the gold atoms will escape from the solution by heating, and cover on the surface of the plate.
PS: My English is too bad,so I can not describe what I think clearly.Hope you can understand
newone2010ParticipantThe Aucl3 will combine withe the H20 in the air,and turn to HAucl4.If you want to show the H2O clearly in the molecular formula, that will be AuCl3·HCl·4H2O.You do not need to heat HAuCl4(or we can say it AuCl3·HCl·4H2O),just dissolve it into water.
newone2010ParticipantThank you all so much! I can not wait for the plate!I am so excited of what I can do with them.
newone2010ParticipantI think it is be called Chloroauric acid hydrated too. It’s HAuCl4.That is what I use.
newone2010ParticipantHi all,
This is the dag I made this afternoon.
The brass was reused. There was a layer of nickle on the back side.As some of you know, the plater which I found before eletroplated a layer of nickle before silver bath.It will left some white spots on the final images. I polished the front side, the brass came out after I polished the silver layer and nickle layer, but I didn’t polish the back side.I think some nickle atoms came to the front side from back side when I re-silverd the brass. That’s maybe why there are so many white spots on this image. Nickle layer is very hard to be polished,so there are so many scratches.Anyway,I am very happy when I making dags, though I have so many problems which are waiting to be solved.
best,
Li
PS:I don’t have 9600WS flash lights,and I only have a 150mm F5.6 lens,so I use 2 800ws flash lights,flash the model 20 times.
