So I got these second hand sometime ago. Unfortunately I don’t recall what Mark told me as far as the coating thickness. Other plates in period sizes that I have used from him have provided several images before subsequent buffing started showing copper on the edges.

Hope this is helpful. Please feel free to contact me directly todd(at)minieball69(dot)com

I have been purchasing German Cotton Velvet from a religious vestment company: http://www.istok.net/vestment-fabrics-german-velvet.html

Mike Robinson turned me on to using this stuff vs the common cotton velvet.

Well this has been a subject on the wet-plate boards as well. Tim Merrite still makes the top half (the head brace part) but not the bottoms any longer. I think that’s who your talking about in your post.

What some have suggested is that you purchase the top from Tim and but a modern cast “victorian” style table bottom (just google it) and adapt it to the top.

I will be going this route as a summer project. I’ll keep you posted

Well I could happily lend them to you but I don’t want to sell these. Sorry I can’t help you there. I have had good luck on eBAY of late. I’ve even seen a couple NOS thermo-plastic cases show up as well.

    Good Luck,

Are you looking to purchase or do you just need to borrow them for study?
