    Hi!

I was a modern daguerreotypist until about 2004, then a move and other issues meant all my equipment got put into storage. And it has just sat there since. It is all better in the hands of someone that’ll use it. I have handmade mahogany plate boxes, fuming boxes, a bunch of precut copper plates, an electronic-controlled mercury bath (which will need some fixing) a blower, ventilation piping etc.

If anyone’s in the LA area that can transport all this, I’ll part with it REALLY CHEAPLY. Local pickup only.

    Thanks!

I absolutely want to sell the plate boxes! I want to sell everything!! :D

I made them for 4″x5″ plates. Each plate box is made out of mahogany and velvet lined, fits 25 plates and I think I have about 100 odd unfinished copper plates stored in 4 of them, though I’d have to check. I used them to transport the plates and also to send them back and forth to the platers.

Are you in the L.A. area? If so we could arrange a time to meet up.

    Thanks!

    I am from Belgium/Europe.

What’s wrong with the electronic-controlled mercury bath (which will need some fixing)?

    thx

Would it be possible for you to post some images of the boxes and other equipment?

The heating element, which is a flexible heating wire, is attached to the body of the mercury bath with a high-heat potting compound that has begun to fall apart. You would need to repair this. The mercury bath was designed to be portable for developing in the field (I used to carry it around on the roof of my car in a modified car top box) and is contained in it’s own light-tight glove box. Note: the design of the light-tight box was not optimal for air flow and a couple of simple mods would be required to make it work nicely. It is all very heavy and cannot be shipped.

The fuming boxes are Eugene Galasso originals, fit whole plate dags. Bought new in 1996. One box has had a crack in the wooden plate holder which was repaired and never affected function.

Again, this is something where I’m willing to let this all go for a song to a responsible modern daguerreotypist, but local pickup only. That way, the buyer can check it all out and can drive off with the equipment. Particularly for the mercury bath, I want to vet the new owner because this is serious stuff. I can’t get to the storage locker for a week or two, but when I can I’ll post some pics.

    Hi Jesse,

I’m interested in buying the fuming boxes, if you can ship them to Michigan. I already am making mercury dags, but I could use better fuming boxes. Please let me know.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jesse,

I was wondering if you still had any of those 4×5 pate boxes left. I live in Australia and have real difficulty getting gear here.

    Cheers
