Like a lot of people, I’m feeling the pinch of the recession. Is there much of a market for people wanting to buy them? And what is the best way to do it, short of creating my own website? Ebay? Consignment at an art gallery? It would be nice to make enough from the hobby to be, at least, self supporting. Make enough to buy/plate new plates, plus enough to take the little woman to a nice dinner every now and then.

Yeah, I ALMOST am at that point. For a little 2×2 contact print I get $50-$100 US. That covers the materials and some of the time. I use local art shows, Fortunately my work has one each year. I have thought about Ebay, just please make sure you emphasize that it is a contemporary work. The nice thing about using a gallery is that even if a prospect doesn’t buy the one on display, they know you are out there. I ran into this this past weekend and got a comission. (although it was for a Uranotype) If you find something that works let the rest of us know yeah?

I think as soon as I get one I’m proud of I might try the ebay route…just to test the waters.

Now if you will excuse me, I gotta go find out what a uranotype is!

    Ah, sorry,

I use Uranium Nitrate instead of Silver Nitrate for making printing out paper. Yellows, reds and browns. Pretty good contrast on the right papers. About as Toxic as Dags, with the added plus of radioactivity. If I sell enough I can afford the silver plating setup I want and get back to dags! :D

Sorry for the tangent but where did you get your uranium nitrate? I tried finding some awhile back but the only supply I found made daguerreotypes look really cheap.

    heh,

the first stuff I had I made. Yeah, 80% nitric acid and Uranium metal. The stuff I use now I traded for. If someone is really interested I can send some treated paper.

Thanks for the info. There are a number of former uranium mines near me with ore scattered all about. I once considered treating the uranium oxide with nitric acid to see if I could make enough uranium nitrate for an image. Though I’ve heard uranium nitrate made from depleted uranium is much safer as most of the nasty bits have been used up. I think I’ll stick with a nice, safe process like the daguerreotypes for the time being… :)
