Packages on the way to Li. One FedEx, one US Post Office. Rob McElroy gave some of his “Polishing Powder”, which is as white as cocaine. I sent that USPS, because I am afraid of customs. Lord help them if they sniff it! We sent 8 plates. 2 from Gregory Popovitch, 2 Mike Robinson, 2 Andy Stockton, 1 Rob McElroy and 1 Alan Bekuis. Rob McElroy also went the extra mile. When we asked Li’s plate size, he said 4 x 5, but his actual plates were smaller. Rob figured out that Li was using an old plate holder for “film”, not an original “plate” holder. So with a Film holder, there are metal slides that force a smalerl plate. Rob located on original Film plate holder, took it apart, re-jiggered it, put it back together and then enamel painted it beautiful black! Now Li will have a plate holder that fits exactly a 4 x 5! What a great job, Rob! Thank you so much.
It will take about a week to get there. I am sending Li the FedEx tracking no#, so he can follow the progress. It’s great that Li will have a sampling of U.S. plates – both clad and plated – so he can show them to his platers.
Thanks again to all to helped, and thanks to all who chime in with Li’s requests for experienced advice. It will be fun to follow his progress.
Oh, and I enclosed a period double 1/6th plate, cased, of a husband and wife. Li has never seen a period daguerreotype! This one has it all (albeit just bust portraits). Perfect plate prep, polish, clarity, contrast, razor sharp with no tarnish. While just a “headshot”, it is a great example of a fellow who did it right – from start to finish..
