I’m new to cdags from tokyo, japan.
I have made my first daguerreotype with becquerel process the other day.
I can see the image but the contrast seems to be low, no sharpness and the entire color is like cream yellow.
Is it fog ? I may have over-exposed the plate. I thought the highlight should have turned into blue but it’s not.
Or is it something caused during fixing or gilding process ?
    Please kindly advise.

    data :
    exposure – EV10 with studio lights, F3.8, 32min. on a rainy day
development – 10 hrs under the incandescent lamp, 30min under the sun.
fixing – 6 – 8 min. in total (includes rinsing)
gilding – enamel tray with alcohol lamp, 60 – 70 celsius degree
washing – 10min under the tap water

    I’d appreciate your help.

    Hi Yoko

My experience with becquerel dags is that they go cream, yellow or green with overexposure, rather than blue. I think you will find with a higher degree of polish you will get more detail. It is a good result for a first dag plate, keep on trying.

    Dear Alan
Thank you so much for your advice! I will do more experiments. I think I will consider to move to the mercurial mehtod in the future. It looks more beautiful…
