I just want to say hello to all! I have used this website and forum extensively as an outside eye to help me to this point.. well finally i am here to participate a bit. I just finished my first becquerel dag and am pleased and humbled at the amount of work i have done and need to improve. I have a link to a journal and i hope to keep up to date with a little more technical info at: http://www.primalphotographic.com/daguerreotype-journal.html Any input is greatly appreciated. I look forward to the future of being part of cdags.com.. Thank you, Chad

    Newone,

I use a very inexpensive scanner, Epson Perfection 3590 Photo Scanner. I bought it several years ago for 99.00 US. All my dags are mounted under glass as soon as I finish gilding, I use cheap glass so there are alot of scratches and imperfections that get picked up in the scan. I do photoshop those spots as best I can but keep the real imperfections and contrast as close as possible in the digitized image. You just have to find a scanner that scans at an angle to reduce the reflection.

PS – I really have enjoyed watching your progress on the forum!

OH,I see. I didn’t use PS to remove the dust and scratches of my cheap glass before.I just want to show how my dags looks like, but I found the images after scanning are really much more bad than the dags really were.

I don’t have a scaner.I just sent them to a small shop of printing photos in the town. They has a Epson scaner but I didn’t know which size it was. They used normal scan software and get bad results.

I will PS the images, and let them close to how the dags look like.See you soon.

It is much easier to scan the plate before it is sealed behind glass. You can just put the bare plate on the glass (it won’t damage the image), or use a small spacer to leave a little air space between the plate and the scanner glass to avoid Newton rings.

I have always been so careful to quickly get the plate under glass over fear of damaging or adding particals of dust. I will give it a try, I often wondered how some of the dags on here were scanned, as I can see the pilot holes for electoplating and assumed it was just very clean glass. Chad
