Hello, I hope someone can help me overhere …

I am devellopping a mercurypot for myself.

Has the pot to be made out of steel or stainless steel ?

The cup at the bottom is this best made out of stainless steel or copper ?

Is there an innercoating needed on the inside of the pot ?

    Thx

    Marc/Belgium

    Don’t use copper.

    It reacts with mercury.

Mercury forms an amalgam with copper, brass, aluminum, and others so they’re not good candidates for mercury pot construction. Stainless steel is probably the best from what I’ve been able to find.

Only slightly tangential, an interesting video showing the reaction of mercury and aluminum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7Ilxsu-JlY
