[70’s Dager]

Hello, I may as well add my name to your list since I have been working with the Daguerreotype process from 1969, and still at it. My Rilex modified camera to use the Hasselblad cut film back and their 2 1/2" square plates makes for an easy but great way to produce modern "Dags". The Rilex camera, [1948-1951], is a 6X9 format view style body designed for the standard shutter mounted lenses. My lens is a 75mm F1.9 and will alow me to use a shorter exposure time; and that’s a great advantage. I would be happy to provide copy images of my work.Walter artbodies70@hotmail.com

Hello,
I welcome your effort to bring togeather the known makers of modern Daguerreotypes; the need to know of each other and also to compair and share information common to the process. I had tried to provide that same information in the "New Daguerreian Journal" April 1972, "The 20th Century Daguerreotype"; the names then listed were; Jim Ambrecht, Fred Birkhill, Clifford Krainik, Marvin Kreisman, Ray Phillips, Irv Pobboravsky, O. Sherwood Poppe, Joe Synder, Charles Tremear, Harvey Zucker, and myself. Because of the published information in that issue, many other "Dag" makers were able to write to me andask that they be included on my list. I’m certain that you will experence the same reaction; or I would hope so.

Thank you for starting this thread! I plan on adding a links for daguerreotypists, suppliers, galleries, etc. so a list here will help me out a lot.The first contemporary daguerreotypist I ever heard of was Robert Shlaer because he’s local shows his dags are shown in a local gallery. He doesn’t have a website but he did publish a very interesting book: Sights Once Seen: Daguerreotyping Frémont’s Last Expedition Through the Rockies.

Just thought I would introduce myself, my website is http://www.daguerreotypes.co.uk . Appologies for the avatar, it is the nickname that some fellow students gave me whilst studying for my photography degree as a mature student . They were talking pixels and I was taking mercury temperatures! (I am still into digital aswell.) I have talked to some of the guys on the list and they have all been helpful and encouraging. If anyone is in London I have 6 images on show at the Association of Photographers Gallery 7th to 12th July.
