There’s a Flickr group for contemporary daguerreotypes now. http://www.flickr.com/groups/733789@N22/

I can’t figure out how to get MINE in there but hey… I keep getting the message that the image is either already inside the group, in too many groups, or is restricted. As far as I know my images aren’t in ANY groups but I’m not even sure how to see if that’s the case.

    Anyway… check it out.

Sounds like a glitch if you can’t add photos… perhaps you’ll be able to tomorrow. I have that sort of problem with flickr every now and then. Can’t think of what else it would be at the moment…

There’s also a group for daguerreotypes new and old. Mostly old but there are a few new ones in the lot: http://www.flickr.com/groups/dags/

Well I’m not a "PRO" so maybe that has something to do with it.

I hadn’t seen these groups before, they are interesting. One problem with them is the addition of images that aren’t actual daguerreotypes. There are images there by different members with the same frame/digital effect. I would prefer to see a Daguerreotype with out these effects and in the actual enclosure they lie in.

I noticed that too, casedimage. A little moderation is in order. The images from "Breath Less" are all artificial (right?) and it bugs me that they’re in the group.

The contemporary daguerreotype group had been moderated fairly well and I’m not sure why it’s not now. I moderate the daguerreotype group and it’s amazing how many people submit photos with the ‘daguerreotype filter’. There are also a couple photos in there that look like they might be one of the collodion processes but I gave them the benefit of the doubt since its hard for me to tell. Sometimes poorly digitized daguerreotypes look like well digitized ambrotypes to me. I just removed an albumin print, I wonder if people think it’s an old photograph the automatically think daguerreotype.

Oh there’s lots of confusion about what a daguerreotype is. And Jon you are right that many people think that daguerreotype=old photograph. I have been bidding on daguerreotypes on eBay – the one’s with trashed cases are pretty cheap. (they serve to inspire me). I have had to quiz a number of sellers to determine if what they were selling was a cased tintype or ambrotype. Caveat emptor.

I’ve never used Flickr much. Is it possible to communicate with the moderator?
