Wait… it’s SUMMER over there? What kind of black magic is THIS? Do your toilets go the other way too?
November 12, 2008 at 12:49 pm #7412drdagParticipantI have two upcoming exhibitions:

The Devon Guild of Craftsmen (Bovey Tracy) 6 Jan -6 Mar 2009Both will have 6 images from my series La Nature Morte
November 12, 2008 at 2:16 pm #7413jdanforthParticipantBest of luck to you in sales!
November 13, 2008 at 2:53 pm #7414drdagParticipantThanks Jonathan, lets hope its not raining so hard this time!
I have also been shortlisted for the Nikon Discovery Awards 2008 , don’t know if a Dag could win
but it would be good eh?.Let you know 10 Dec 08…….November 28, 2008 at 6:57 am #7415drdagParticipantIts all gone a bit quiet??
Must be the lack of light.
Anyway just a reminder of my show this coming week in LondonNovember 28, 2008 at 9:07 am #7416Andy StocktonParticipantGood luck with your exhibitions and I will keep my fingers crossed about the Nikon award. That would be fantastic. Re the quiet – yesterday was the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States which may be contributing some to the silence. Many people spend time with family.

Re the quiet – yesterday was the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States which may be contributing some to the silence. Many people spend time with family.I have been making daguerreotype cases for the past 14 hours. Fun! It’s cold in my studio so I brought everything inside and I’m watching Stargate episodes on DVD. If only I could make this my full time job!
November 28, 2008 at 11:52 pm #7418CasedImageKeymastercontinuing the off topic talk – cold weather eh? Sweltering day here here in NZ as we head into summer, I have taken breaks through the day (have been scanning a Ken Nelson article – now in the resources section) by going for a dip in the pool…
All the best Chris for the exhibitions.www.CasedImage.com

December 2, 2008 at 10:27 am #7425Jon LewisMemberYes, I’ve been off eating and eating then rolling around on the couch recovering from too much eating…
As for the shows, I have been trying to keep the Events section up to date with shows, workshops, lectures, etc. So if anyone has anything to add let Alan or I know. Every now and then I try to scour the internet for relevant events but I’m not always sure where to look ” title=”Smile” />
December 4, 2008 at 2:52 am #7434drdagParticipantPicture of my dag cabinet at the Gallery in Cork Street. Mayfair
Notice Howard Hodgkin painting in the background, £900,000!December 4, 2008 at 9:09 pm #7437jdanforthParticipantExcellent! That looks quite familiar… ” title=”Very Happy” />
December 6, 2008 at 8:27 am #7439Andy StocktonParticipantWould you explain a bit about how the display case works? I have heard others say that display of daguerreotypes in a gallery can be challenging.
December 7, 2008 at 8:52 am #7440drdagParticipantyes, As you can see it is glass, with an aluminium frame. The front doors are glass and lockable. The shelves are glass. At the top there are 2 small low voltage halogen bulbs that point down, (they) have some angle adjustment. The middle and bottom shelves have two lights each mounted on the front corners these have lots of adjustment. I have made black velvet liners to fit on each shelf to stop any unwanted light going where you dont want it. I had my first show a while back and had my dags in a big cabinet, they looked awful and I was embarrassed. This made me do research and I found this cabinet. I ordered it on the proviso that they would have it back if it didnt work. It arrived in a huge wooden packing case. I put a couple of dags in and plugged in, it was one of those moments sort of like the first dag , I knew it was right. What is nice is that it doesnt matter how bright the surrounding area is , it works ( apart from in direct bright sunlight).Picture doesnt really do it justice. Jonathan (shiny) has seen it and David Burder thought it was good.
It was about £350 if I remember right, a lot of money, but if you are showing to the public in ‘proper’ places I believe
that it it has to look the part.londondec08 038.jpgDecember 7, 2008 at 9:23 am #7442Andy StocktonParticipantIt looks gorgeous. Thanks so much for the details. I had been thinking of making a sort of individual "black-box" type display with internal lighting for the dag only but I like that this shows off the case work as well. It also seems more powerful to have six shown together. That would be especially nice for a series.
December 7, 2008 at 1:48 pm #7443drdagParticipantI did make one with white leds along the top, it looked rubbish compared to this . You have to be very good to make a professional looking item for show to the public , it needs to be unassuming.good luck whatever you do
December 11, 2008 at 5:48 am #7448drdagParticipantAn update, unfortunately a Daguerreotype didn’t receive the Nikon Discovery Award, (although we got an honorable mention) it was great to be shortlisted . Digital photos won , there’s a surprise
December 11, 2008 at 9:44 am #7449Jon LewisMemberCongratulations on the honorable mention! Perhaps next year there’ll be a daguerreotype on top ” title=”Very Happy” />

It would be cool if there were an annual alternative-process award, eh?
Congratulations on the honorable mention though!
January 20, 2009 at 7:20 pm #8545drdagParticipantMe again…. my exhibition is now underway at The Devon Guild of Craftsmen for 6 weeks. I have been offered an Associate Membership on merit for my work which is another pat on the back.
All I need is for someone to start buying….
October 2, 2009 at 12:12 pm #8527drdagParticipantI have an exhibition starting tonight at The Photographers Lounge, 38 High Street,Swanage, Dorset, UK.
It runs for one month. There are 4 images from La Nature Morte and I from my Pierrot series.
October 2, 2009 at 12:25 pm #9679Andy StocktonParticipantGood luck! And keep us posted about how things go. Are you doing anything special to enhance the display or did you just get offered the usual brightly lit wall space?
October 6, 2009 at 8:29 am #9689drdagParticipantI have a cabinet that travels with my dags, it is aluminium, with glass, it has 6 small halogen lights and its own hanging bracket. Very modern and unobtrusive. I bought it after my first show, when no one could see my images properly. I will never show without it again (except places like Bry where they know what they are doing). It cost me £350 and when not out, it is in my office with my latest works in it.

I was worried that it wouldnt work, but they said I could return it if it was not suitable. The only thing I did was to put black velvet on the glass selves.
