Daguerrean plates: comparison between a French and a new Spanish supplier(no more fogged plates!).

French plates give a very sharp image with a strong contrast in a magenta first cycle. Better used them with a second cycle to reduce the contrast.

The development times are very long to reach neutral whites ; 6 hours with rubylith + sun – EV15.5 for a second cycle.

Vaporization of French plates in a first cycle does not give very metallic colors as in the second cycle. For against Spanish plates in the 2 cycles give very metallic colors.

Spanish plates give sharp images with a softer contrast in a first cycle ( magenta).
The development times are short :
    1h00/1h30 with amberlith Alternative ( Rosco Filter n * 15, 2 layers ) + 2700 kelvin lamp – EV14
    Rubylith + 3h00 with sun – EV15.5

The shots were done with natural light ( 4500 kelvin ) and in studio continuous daylight ( 4700 Kelvin) .
    The development with :
    rubylith + sun – EV15.5
    rubylith + 2700 kelvin lamp – EV14
    Alternative amberlith ( Rosco Filter n * 15, 2 coats ) + 2700 kelvin lamp – EV14

    conclusions:
The plates of the 2 providers give excellent results, beautyful Becquerels!!!

We also wonder why such a difference in development times … expect some chemist or enlightened person inform us …

The full test is there in spanish:

Daguerreotype is beautyful… Becquerel is so Beautyfulllll!

    Hi Simone,
maybe I had the same problem with these plates, I should expose less and use a shorter developing time? I sensitized for the second magenta to reduce contrast.

    Hi Jalo

They look burned! And for a second cycle still look contrasty! I will reduce exposition of 1 stop to 1 1/2 stop.
    Tests tests tests more testssssssss………….
