    contemporary daguerreotype has died?

    #17504

    No way!

It’s one of my 2016 New Year’s resolutions: make my first daguerreotype. I just bought my first house, so after the move I can finally put in a nice dark room with proper ventilation, fume hood, etc. I’m very excited!

    Happy new year!
    Surprisingly.
    Really one person?

There can be still someone wants to make dageurreotype?

    As IO has died.

    I declare new competition.

Who will make the first dag 2016.

    Prize – our applause.

There can be any other ideas?

Neither IO nor CDags are dead – just another event/site maintained by busy volunteers. It would be nice to revive more conversations however. Let us know what you are up to – If you post the first dag for 2016 you can expect applause and to have your dag featured on the front page. 🙂 Happy New Year!

I’m from the Philippines and have been doing my test plates on 4x5s for the last 3 weekends. It’s the most conducive time for a tropical country as humidity is down to what’s good for dag making…so yea, contemporary dags silently working hard in the outskirts of Asia…

The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated!

    Hello Bailun
You are correct in observing we have not had anther IO event since 2013. It was a huge undertaking and such things come at great cost (personally it cost me in excess of US$3000 in make it happen),sadly a call for donations to cover the costs went unheeded which makes putting on the next event a daunting prospect. Having said that we will endeavour to repeat its success and I take it, given your expectations, I can count on your support.

Please don’t let it die. I want to start and am having a difficult time getting anywhere. We need all of you amazing artists to help spread this amazing art form. It is obscure but every person who comes in contact with me hears about it even if they don’t want to. I’m unable to attend Jerry Spagnoli’s workshop next month but it’s the only workshop I’ve found. I can’t find any fume boxes. its hard out there for a newbie.

I made my first mercury dag this year (did a few Becquerels last year).

But yeah, seems like the forum here is pretty darn comatose….
