    Hi contemporary alchemists,

I’m looking for the appropriate adhesive for mounting daguerreotype on a plate glass or plexiglass.
I tried Neschen gudy 870 Mounting Adhesive before, but I’m afraid it doesn’t last for long time.
Do you know better material? Or have you ever tried epoxy glue or other stuff??

    Thank you!

    Three suggestions for you:

    1) 3M 9500 PC – double stick tape for metal to plastic adhesion
    2) 3M 9495LE – heavy duty tape for sticking to powder-coated surfaces, slick plastics
    3) “Hook & Loop” (Velcro) on plate and mount- allows for re-positioning, but leaves air space between plate and mount

I use 9500 PC for attaching plates to my acrylic hand buffing block. I use hook & loop for mounting my tintypes to stretchers for exhibition.

    Hi Nate,

Thank you so much for your suggestions!
I tried 3M 9500 before but after 3 years some dags came off from glass/plexiglas mount.
I think the backing of adhesive is too solid (it’s polyester Film) and should be more elastic.
(*But I suppose it works great on tintypes, because they are much lighter than silver-plates)

I also tried Velcro too & that worked perfect!
It’s only one demerit is it’s thickness..

p.s. 1-2 plates shown in the attached image nearly fell off during the recent show. That made a stuff in the museum freak out…
